About Satopanth Lake

Satopanth Lake is a triangular lake along with crystal clear green water located at a height of 4600 meters above the sea level. Decked out in the middle of snow-covered peaks, trek to this beautiful place is sure to offer you breathtaking views. Satopanth Lake trek is often a popular trek in Uttarakhand from where you can enjoy magnificent sights of Himalayas. The waterfall of Vasundhara is surely a treat to your eyes, while the campsite at Chakratirtha will give you exciting views of Satopanth glacier along with Swaragrohini as well as Chaukhamba mountains at the background. Satopanth Lake trek is known to have sacred and prehistoric importance because it is said that Lord Vishnu on the day of Ekadashi took bath in this lake. However, it is the only place where all Hindu Gods gather in order to board their heavenly charisma. Bathing in this lake on the 11th day of cosmological and astral fortnights is considered very fortunate. Though the Satopanth Lake trek is a little bit difficult but offers you stunning sights of nature. May to June and September to October is considered the best time to go for Satopanth Lake trek. So get ready to experience some spectacular sights of Himalayan peaks.

Satopanth Lake Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

(Drive 275km/9-10 hrs)

Joshimath is almost 275km from Haridwar and it is 9-10 hours long drive. We will be reaching Joshimath by evening so after freshening up you can explore the local market. 

Joshimath to Mana (3200 m) via Badrinath; Drive 50km/2 hrs.

On day 2, we will visit Mana from Joshimath for an acclimatization walk. We will go through Badrinath which is a famous Hindu pilgrimage and also one of the Char Dhams. Mana is the last village of India and is almost 4km away from Badrinath. 

After having breakfast, we will start the trek to Laxmiban from Mana. You will come across Alaknanda River, while in the month of June it is easy to cross the river at Mana as the snow bridge is quite good & intact. During the trek, you will come across Bhojpatra trees and eye-catchy views of nature. 

On day 4, you will experience a little difficult trail and it will also be an exigent day. As you move forward, you can have the view of beautiful valleys like Balakun and Chaukhamba. The night stay will be scheduled at Chakrateerth in the camps from where you can enjoy the mesmerizing views of nature. 

After having a healthy breakfast, we will start the trek to Satopanth Lake which is situated at an altitude of 4,345m. During the trek, you will come across stunning views of Chaukhamba and Nilkantha. We will be returning back to Chakrateerth and stay at night there. 

Get up early in the morning and experience the glorious views of the sunrise. While trekking back to Chakrateerth, you see spectacular views that will leave you stunned. 

Trek - 6km/4-5 hrs

Drive - 50km/2hrs

After finishing the remaining descent of almost 6km we will drive back to Joshimath along with some life-long reminiscences. 

Enjoy your delicious breakfast and then drive back to Haridwar via Rishikesh. You will be reaching Haridwar by the evening.
