Baraadsar Lake Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

Our trip will begin from Dehradun. In the morning, we will leave from Dehradun railway station and drive along Mussorie, Purola, Mori, and Naitwar in order to reach Himri.

It is a drive of 12 hours that too on the twisting mountain roads. Get ready to enjoy the best mountain drive. Late in the evening, we will reach the base camp. Near the Rupin River, Himari camp is located which is the most beautiful camp. Night stay will be scheduled in the tent along with hot food.

The destination for day 02 is going to be a small village known as Bitri. You need to know that Bitri is present on the mountain ridge along with Himri at its base.

The climb to Bitri will begin among the pine forest and is steep right from the beginning. Make sure you leave Himri with adequate drinking water because today’s trail has almost zero water sources. The village temple is one of the major attractions of Bitri where Biren Nag and Mahasu are worshipped.

As you trek further, you will come across a big meadow with a lake in the centre known as Saaru Tal. This will be the camp for your day. For most months of the year, the lake is empty.

Get up early in the morning and witness the most mesmerizing sunrise at Saaru Tal. Today, we will trek to Badaang which is a stiff climb. Badaang is located along the hill of the same mountain but is a little higher.

On day 03, we will gain the height of 2200ft and cover a distance of 7km. However, it is going to be a moderate trek. After an hour of a rocky and steep climb, you will reach a small brook which marks the starting of the pine/deodar forest. After the pine forest, the trail is easy.

On your way to Badaang, you can also spot the Himalayan langurs and several other stunning varieties of birds in the forest. Surrounded by a mesmerizing deodar forest, the Badaang campsite is situated on a pleasing paddock. You can even spot a stream flowing right next to the campsite.

The trek to your 3rd campsite Dhal Dhar from Badaang is a little exhausting and long. Early in the morning start your trek through an oak forest. It is going to be a long 3 hours trek through the forest and stiff climbs.

Get ready to witness the breathtaking views of huge peaks like Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Ralgan in front of you. The Dhal Dhar campsite is settled in a  narrow valley. The hill present opposite the campsite is covered with white rhododendron bushes. Remember on the entire trail, there is no water.

The trek to Dev Bhasa is short and can be covered in just 2 hours. An initial climb of 500ft in just half a kilometer trailed by a gentle descent brings you to the campsite.

The campsite is located on a very small plain that connects two mountains. You will find the area to be rocky and also get ready for a bumpy night. The water source from the Dev Bhasa campsite is just 2km. From the 3 sides, the camp is enclosed by rocky mountains and is very windy. Night stay will be scheduled in the camp right under the clear sky and sparkling stars. From Dev Bhasa, you can easily see the Gangotri range.

When compared to other days, the trek from Dev Bhasa to Bharadsar camp is the longest and toughest one. In order to reach the Bharadsar camp, there are 2 different routes. The longer one goes left, round about the mountain, and then finally comes right. The shorter route involves a steep ascent crossing a pass and then finally getting down to the Bharadsar campsite. Remember the Bharadsar camp is approximately 3 hours away from the pass.

All the trekkers need to know that the Bharadsar meadow campsite does not have water and firewood. Melting snow is the only source of water here.

From the Bharadsar meadow campsite, you won’t be able to see the Bharadsar lake. From the ridge you come, you can get a distant sight of the lake. The descent on the Dev Bhasa side is not only sharp but also slippery at the same time.

The direct ridge route is quite short when compared to the roundabout route. Take the direct route to the height. A trek of almost 3 hours will bring you back from Bharadsar camp to Dev Bhasa.

Early in the morning after having breakfast, we will start trekking back to Phitari village.   On your way, you will cross pine forests and other fields of wheat as well as rajma. This indicates that you have reached Phitari village.

After having a delicious breakfast, we will drive back to Dehradun and mark the end of the trekking journey. By the late evening, we will reach Dehradun and the trekkers can accordingly plan their return journey to their hometown.

In this way, your trekking trip to Baraadsar Lake comes to an end with lots of sweet memoirs.
