Chadar Trek (Detailed Itinerary)

All the trekkers need to reach Leh from where the trekking trip will start. On arriving at Leh airport, you will realize that it is the most pictorial airport. Make sure you keep some of your woolen clothes handy as the temperature might drop down at Leh airport.

Get ready to fly over long stretches of snow-capped Himalayan mountains, making you realize why it is impossible to reach Ladakh via road in winters. The chill in the air is going to serve as a trailer of the temperature of the Chadar river trek.

Once you reach the guesthouse, you will get time to relax. In the evening, you can spend some leisure time in the market and do shopping. Make sure you keep your body hydrated by taking fluids in order to maintain the body temperature.

Do not try to head to high altitudes on day 01 because it is necessary to take proper rest and get ready for the coming adventure.

According to the government regulations, it is important for all trekkers to undertake the Chadar trek only after spending two days in Leh. This will help to acclimatize to the high height. In this way, trekkers can also avoid acute mountain sickness.

In the two days, the trekkers need to get used to the cold temperature in Leh as the temperature will fall only when you start walking towards the Zanskar river. Here the temperature reaches below zero in the daytime only.

After having breakfast, you can explore the town and go beautiful sightseeing. Remember this is the right time to ensure that you have all the items needed for trekking. Leh is the last stop where you can get access to shops and civilization.

Wake up early in the morning and be ready for medical tests including height, weight, blood pressure, and oxygen level. Today is the big day because your medical test report will decide whether you will trek or not. Reach the medical camp and get your medical test done early in the morning.

Though the medical tests involve less time but due to the rush of tourists, you need to wait for your turn. If the medical report is positive then you will obtain the required wildlife permits, insurance documents, and another permit as well documents.

Wake up in the morning and after having breakfast get ready to start your much-awaited trek. Your day will start with an amazing drive to Chilling which is the starting point of the Chadar trek. This drive is going to cover the Leh to Zanskar river distance.

During the drive, you will come across stunning views of the cold desert such as the meeting of the Zanskar and the Indus, the Magnetic hill as well as the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib.

Today, we will trek for long 13km in almost 7 hours. The destination of the day is going to take you to the most looked-for sight of the trek. Nerak waterfall stands tall and proud at an elevation of 56ft. From here, you can enjoy the appealing view of water suspended in time and frozen midway to the ground.

The campsite for today will be located 20 minutes away from the waterfall. Make sure you take special care of yourself and keep yourself warm by putting up the right clothes. The temperature at the campsite will fall to as low as -30 degrees at night.

After having your hot & delicious dinner, head inside the tents and rest.

After having breakfast early in the morning, we will start our journey and get back to the Tibb cave. In case, you think going back is the easiest part of this journey then the Chadar will surely make your mind think about this again.

On your way back to Tibb cave, you will come across some human activity in the form of monks, returning back to Leh from Lingshed or locals going back from their business.

It is gratifying to see the children laughing and smiling on their way to school in even such harsh conditions. After trekking for 6-7 hours, you can reach back to the Tibb Cave campsite. This is the place where you will be camping overnight.

Wake up early in the morning and witness the superb Himalayan sunrise. Before starting your trek back to Shingra Koma enjoy the warm and lip-smacking breakfast.

You have to trek along the same route and pass by the same frozen waterfalls and mesmerizing rock formations. An eye-catchy trail, running parallel to the emerald green waters of the Zanskar thriving through Ladakh is going to make your trek extremely adventurous.
