Chopta Chandrashilla Trek is one of the most quaint treks in the Garhwal Himalayas for adventurous trekkers. If you want to go for a snow trekking then you can go for Chopta Chandrashilla Trek at the time of winters because during the months of December and January it experiences heavy snowfall.

Tungnath is a Shiva temple that is considered as the highest among all the Himalayas and surprisingly Chandrashila peak is a rock face above it.

Your adventure begins with an overnight drive from Delhi to Sari Village, covering a distance of 450 km. This journey takes you through the spiritual town of Haridwar and Rishikesh, known for its serene atmosphere and the holy Ganges River. As you travel, you’ll witness a transition from bustling cityscapes to the tranquil foothills of the Himalayas. The drive takes approximately

10-12 hours, giving you ample time to rest and prepare for the trek. Ensure you have comfortable travel arrangements, as the overnight journey can be tiring. Pack light snacks and stay hydrated to make the journey more pleasant.

 

Upon reaching Sari Village by early afternoon, you'll be welcomed by its picturesque surroundings. Sari is a quaint village that serves as a gateway to the trekking trails of the Garhwal Himalayas. After a refreshing local lunch, you'll start your trek to Deoriatal. This 2.5 km trek, taking about 3 hours, leads you through lush forests filled with rhododendron and oak trees. As you ascend, you’ll be treated to occasional glimpses of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks, including the majestic Chaukhamba. Upon reaching Deoriatal, you'll set up camp near the pristine high-altitude lake, renowned for its mirror-like reflections of the surrounding mountains. Spend the evening exploring the area, enjoying the serene ambiance, and capturing the beauty of the reflections in the lake. Enjoy a warm meal under the starlit sky and share stories around the campfire before retiring for the night.

Trek : 5 km one way, 5-6 hours

Tungnath Altitude : 11,500 ft

Chandrashila Altitude : 12,100 ft

 

Start your day with a short drive to Chopta, known as the "Mini Switzerland of India," located 20 km from Sari. The drive takes about 1 hour, bringing you to this scenic destination surrounded by meadows and forests. From Chopta, embark on a trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters. This part of the trek covers 3.5 km and takes about 3 hours. After visiting the temple and soaking in the spiritual energy, continue the trek to Chandrashila Peak, an additional 1.5 km from Tungnath. The total trek of 5 km each way (10 km round trip) takes around 5-6 hours. Chandrashila offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedar Peak. After spending time at the summit, return to Chopta for the night, enjoying the beautiful sunset views and a peaceful evening.

Reach Delhi By Mid Night or Early Morning

 

On the final day, embark on a scenic drive back to Delhi, covering 460 km over approximately 11-12 hours. This journey takes you through the picturesque landscapes of the Garhwal region, providing a last opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Himalayas. As you descend from the mountains, you’ll revisit the towns and valleys that marked the beginning of your trek, reflecting on the memories created over the past few days. Arrive in Delhi in the Mid Night or Early Morning, bringing your memorable adventure in the Chopta to a close.
